EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW! The BrownMark Interview Part 2:
Prince & The Revolution bassist BrownMark joins BD Freeman for Part 2 of a conversation that starts with spectacle and ends with perspective. The opening story is unforgettable: opening for the Rolling Stones in front of a massive crowd, realizing instantly it is the wrong audience, and getting hit with a Jack Daniel's bottle, a bag of chicken, and a grapefruit while trying to make it through the set. It is funny in the retelling, but it also captures how disorienting instant exposure can be when you are still a kid learning the scale of the business.
From there, BrownMark talks about what came next. He describes the first time he understood how famous Prince really was, why he stayed grounded, and how he slowly built his image, from the accidental discovery of his signature hair to the silver shoes and stage wardrobe that helped define the era. The middle of the episode turns inward. He explains that money, cars, and status did not bring peace, and he speaks plainly about depression, alcoholism, and the emotional crash that followed public success.
The later stretch is especially strong. Brown Mark walks through leaving the industry, going back to school, working regular jobs, raising his kids, reconnecting with Prince, and carrying the grief of Prince's death. The episode closes with a stark health warning: after ignoring serious symptoms, Brown Mark lands in the hospital and is told he had two days left to live.
